About Me
Hi Everyone!
My name is Morgan G. Berish and I am a fifth year BSW student at Oakland University. I am pursuing my passion in Social Work with minors in Child Welfare & Psychology.
My whole life I have had an adoration of working with children - from babysitting at an early age, nannying for years, and coming from a large family with many little cousins that I was able to watch grow; I knew working with children was a career choice meant for me.
Originally, I had plans to become a school teacher. That was until I took my first social work class at OU with Professor Liz Strong, which completely shifted my outlook and career goals. She turned the negative stigma of social work into an opportunity and future that I simply knew I had to be apart of.
I am excited to start my journey helping the lives of vulnerable children and families; and I am extremely committed to making a positive difference in my community.
Currently, I am interning with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services [MDHHS] in Macomb County, Michigan, specifically for Child Protective Services. Over the past several months here, I have been receiving the opportunity to shadow home visits, observe interviews, and help with documentation and safety planning. This experience has opened my eyes to the real impact that social workers have on these children and their families' lives - but it has also confirmed for me that this is the work I am meant to do. Each day, I am still learning how to combine my natural empathy with professionalism, along with the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics, in order to make decisions that truly put children’s well-being first.
